About the event
The Actors Institute offers a short course in acting for camera culminating in a professionally filmed and edited scene for your showreel.Â
Our 100% practical course focuses on how to achieve natural and engaging performances in a film production environment and is delivered by Luke Marquez, Matt Cross and Gurch Singh.
The course runs across 8 weeks incorporating both evening and weekend workshops. We have multiple filming locations available on site and scenes will be developed specifically for the actors, providing high-quality content, which works with your casting type. Your scene can be used on its own or you may decide to add to your existing showreel.
Ideal for Actors aged 18+ with some acting experience and training, but with little or no training for the screen. To attend and complete the course you must be available for all workshop/filming days.
Evening Classes (6 weeks)
Tuesdays, 7.30pm - 9.30pm, 25th April – 30th May
The first six weeks runs as evening classes, in which you will harness your creative instincts, drawing upon the techniques of Sanford Meisner. You will explore a sense of liveness through the Meisner technique, analysing text, unearthing the essential facts and working within the confines of character circumstance as well as demands of production.
Weekend, Day 1
Saturday 17th June, 10am-4pm
You will work with the creative team to develop character and narrative that shines a light on your strengths as an actor. You will create a structure and draft script of your scene with guidance from our team.
Weekend, Day 2
Sunday 18th June, 10am-4pm
You will apply the techniques you have learned to your text, refining character, finding a sense of truth in your scene. You will learn your script throughout the day’s activities.
Weekend, Day 3Â
Saturday 24th June, 10am-4pm
You will be introduced to working with camera, exploring the different demands and expectations. Throughout the day, you will perform your scene to camera, watching the scene back with our team, analysing and making the necessary adjustments.
Weekend, Day 4:Â
Sunday 25th June, you will be given a specific filming time and will not be required all day.
You will be allocated a filming slot at your allocated location in or around the Wrong Shoes Studio. You will have a dedicated time for filming with your scene partner, with support from our creative team. Filming will take place with a professional film crew, using industry standard equipment to ensure the best quality. Your scene will then be professionally edited and provided digitally.
